FAQ

Frequently Ask Questions

ARE ALL OF YOUR PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED IN THE US.?

Absolutely Yes! All the resins, colorants, paints and other additives are all produced in the United States. Even the packaging, the stir stick, and other complementary things are all made here in the US.

DO EPOXY RESINS YELLOW OVER TIME?

Yes they do. To resist this, or slow this yellowing Naturalis uses the latest generation of epoxy resin, and we also add something called UV additives. Those are chemicals similar to those used in sunscreens to help protect the resin, and your work of art from what can be damaging UV rays from the sun.

HOW MUCH RESIN DO I USE?

We have a calculator set up for you on our website. As a simple rule of thumb a 12” x 12” canvas requires 5oz of resin. But please visit www.naturalisresin.com/resin-calculator where you can input your height and width measurements to get a resin need estimate.

CAN NATURALIS RESINS BE USED FOR NON ART APPLICATIONS?

Yes. Our Gallery grade is especially suitable for applications such as table tops. It has a slight level of flexibility in the cured resin making it more suitable for tabletops or other furniture. Our colorants can be used in a wide variety of applications from flooring to jewelry.

HOW DO I ACHIEVE SOME OF THE EFFECTS SHOWCASED?

We are constantly adding to our tutorial videos, and will also showcase various wonderful artists sharing their own styles and techniques. Please check in regularly at www.naturalisresin.com for new products, styles and techniques.

For a brief overview of our background please visit PAGE LINK. Our business is the result of exciting collaboration between professional artists and scientists, looking to utilize the latest technologies in beautiful artists materials.

DO YOUR RESIN COLORANTS NEED TO BE STIRRED EACH TIME BEFORE USE?

Yes they do. We are carefully creating semi transparent layers on the surface. High energy mixing or high shear as it is called can actually damage the pigments and other additives. Some work by offering almost plate like mirror surfaces and traditional mixing could break them. Equally traditional paint additives that “hold” products in suspension can get in the way of the multiple light reflections we are achieving. Our material has a careful recipe that balances the needed additives but some of the pigments will settle. Our containers are chosen to able to get a brush or other mixers inside the bottle, and mix up the material before creating your art.

DO I NEED A BLACK BACKGROUND OR CANVAS TO SEE THE COLOR CHANGING EFFECTS?

Yes you do. The color that we see is the reflection from a surface. That surface absorbs some of the radiation (light in the visible spectrum with different colors at different frequencies), that naturally comes from the sun. The surface will absorb some radiation and reflect others. White for example reflects that radiation, and a black surface absorbs all those frequencies. A black or dark surface in effect draws in all those wonderful colors. Many artists either work fully with a black canvas, or have accented areas of a piece with a dark color, and add the color changing effects to those areas. These are showcased in our featured artists section that will excitingly continue to grow.

DO YOUR RESIN MATERIALS COMPLY WITH ASTM D4236?

Yes they do. All our paint, and resin products conform to ASTM D4236.

WHAT IS EPOXY AND HOW DO I USE IT?

Epoxy is a resin, which is a glue like material. Our resin is clear and is used in a 1:1 ratio as demonstrated in this video on our website
